ACA compliant

In the U.S., the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires that all citizens obtain health insurance coverage. In addition, the law requires that health insurance plans cover preventive services, pre-existing conditions, and essential health benefits. Accordingly, Syracuse University requires international students to have health insurance to enroll in classes. To ensure that the university's students get the proper coverage, the university sponsors its own student health plan, which is ACA compliant.

Despite the ACA's requirements, not every college or university offers a student health plan. In fact, some colleges have dropped their health insurance plans altogether because the coverage level was so low. However, the Affordable Care Act has increased the overall level of coverage for individual plans. Short-term, limited-duration plans, however, will not be subject to ACA requirements. Thus, if your college or university offers an Aetna student health plan, you should make sure that you research it thoroughly before signing up for it.

Coverage for COVID-19 testing kits

If you are a Columbia University student and you're interested in staying healthy, you'll be happy to know that the Aetna Student Health insurance plan now covers COVID-19 testing kits. This free at-home test helps you diagnose infections and limit the spread of these diseases. The test is offered on the USC campus by a third-party population testing company, Color. It uses an "observed approach," where a healthcare provider watches you take the test and talks you through the steps.

While Aetna student health plans cover COVID-19 testing, they do not cover general health surveillance or self-diagnosis tests. While it follows state and federal mandates for covered tests, the insurance company may change its testing regulations to reflect the current situation. However, you should not assume that Aetna will cover a test because of the high cost.

Low deductible

Students enrolled in USC's SHIP/Aetna plan are eligible to receive health coverage during their summer vacation. In addition to Telehealth visits, their coverage remains active through August 14 of 2022. However, students should be sure to complete their outstanding immunization requirements and dispose of any drugs safely before they leave campus for the summer. USC students who are graduating should also make sure they have their COVID-19 testing done before they head home for the summer.

Students should take advantage of this insurance when they enroll in USC's Student Health Program. Its low-deductible plan allows them to save money while maintaining coverage for preventive care. This plan covers primary care and women's health visits and also off-sets the cost of specialty care, such as psychiatry and sports medicine. In addition to this, the plan covers 10 individual counseling sessions per year, as well as wellness programs for students.
