A car rental will require a deposit, typically in the form of a credit card payment. This is to ensure that you return the car after use and don't damage it. If you decide not to return the vehicle, or if you are late returning it, the company may charge an additional fee for damages incurred during your rental period.
A deposit is also sometimes required for an extended rental- typically anything over three weeks- because cars can get expensive to replace with just one day left on your rental.
Unfortunately, in the US and Canada, rental companies do not have to give you a receipt for your deposit. This means that you cannot use a deposit as part of your bid for car insurance.
Insurance companies will deny RV rental insurance if there is an outstanding payment owed on another vehicle because they assume that an unpaid debt will result in damage to their vehicle anyway.
On the other hand, there is a chance that if you are looking to rent a car as part of a travel package (flight/hotel/car) that it might apply. Also cars covered by the company's insurance will be able to cancel or get out of their contract without penalty or having to pay extra money.
