It can be tricky to decide on what type of student life insurance is best for you. Here are some tips:

University of Minnesota Life Insurance Company

University of Minnesota offers group term life insurance to its employees, as well as AD&D insurance. The insurance company, part of the Securian Financial Group, collects premiums from employees conveniently through payroll deductions. Berkley Life and Health Insurance Company provides additional accident insurance. Employees can also choose an individual annuity or a retirement plan. The IncomeToday! Annuity, for example, allows you to pay a lump sum and receive checks right away.

As one of the largest life insurance companies in the country, Minnesota Life has grown over the years by developing strong partnerships with leading industry participants. General alliances include Ochs, Inc., and Zurich International Life. LifeSuite partnerships include Ceridian LifeWorks, Europ Assistance USA, and Wall Street Associates. The company also offers accounts through its affiliates, including annuities, employee retirement plans, and Securian brokerage accounts.

Berkley Life and Health Insurance Plan

The University of California, Berkeley requires students to enroll in a health insurance plan while they are enrolled at the university. Students can enroll in an ICICI Lombard student health insurance plan, which is acceptable for students at the University. The ICICI Lombard plan covers the full range of health coverage requirements, including accidents, repatriation, and medical evacuation. The policy also provides coverage for dental care, psychological health, and maternity.

The Berkeley Student Health Insurance Plan is part of the UC Berkeley Department of Public and Environmental Health, and covers regular and urgent care services at a reduced rate. It also includes a dental plan, a vision plan, and minor co-pays for prescriptions. The plan covers 80% of services rendered outside of the campus health network. The Berkeley Student Health Insurance Plan is divided into three insurance carriers: Wellfleet Student Health, University of California Health, and CalCentral. It covers dental, vision, and mental health care, and has no lifetime maximum.

University of Minnesota Student Health Insurance Plan

If you're an international student, you must have a University of Minnesota Student Health Insurance Plan to access campus health care. To be eligible for the plan, you must be enrolled in six or more credit hours per semester and pay the Student Services Fee. If you're an international student, it's best to purchase this plan instead of paying for individual health insurance. If you purchase other health insurance, you will end up paying for both policies, so it's best to purchase only one.

If you're a degree-seeking student, the SHBP is required for all students. You must have coverage for yourself and your dependents while you're enrolled. To waive the SHBP, you must show proof of private verifiable health insurance coverage. Please note that the waiver will last for a full semester. If you're not a degree-seeking student, you can only enroll yourself and your dependents during the fall semester.
