This plan is also called Medigap. It is offered by private health insurance companies. It is a kind of health insurance plans that do covers the areas that medicare did not cover. It is like an ad on to traditional Medicare plans. It covers areas such as costs of using a lab, and home health care.

In case of an ill health, Medicare would take care of the part it covers while Medigap would take care of its part of the cost. It is important to have Medigap too to supplement the traditional coverage of Medicare. So what are the things that a typical Medigap covers?

1) Cost of healthcare if you travel outside the US: If you travel outside the United States, Medicare doesn't cover you. That's where Medigap steps in to cover you up and provides health insurance for you.

2) Dental Health: Traditional medicare plans Part A and B don't cover dental health, so a Medigap plan can be used to provide coverage for a person for dental health.

3) Vision Health: Traditional medicare plans don't offer coverage for vision health. A Medigap plan is used to provide coverage for eye-related medical problems.

These and other health expenses like laboratory expenses are covered by Medigap.
