Most people are familiar with health insurance, but how does it actually work? Health insurance is a type of insurance that covers the cost of medical care. It can be purchased through an employer, a government program, or directly from an insurance company. There are many different types of health insurance, but they all work in basically the same way.

When you have health insurance, you pay a monthly premium to the insurance company. In return, the insurance company agrees to pay for some or all of your medical expenses. The amount of coverage you have depends on the type of policy you have. Some policies only cover major medical expenses, while others may cover routine care, prescriptions, and more.

If you need to use your health insurance, you will typically have to pay a deductible, which is the amount of money you must pay out-of-pocket before your insurance company starts to pay for your care. Once you've met your deductible, you will usually only have to pay a copayment or coinsurance for your care. This is a set amount that you pay for each doctor's visit or prescription. Your insurance company will then pay the rest of the bill.
